You come to Japan dreaming of elegant kaiseki cuisine, only to be served a strangely Western-looking dish. Or you find yourself staring at portions large enough to feed a small army. The chopsticks pause. The appetite fades.
But then, you find this place. Kan no Jigoku Onsen. A gentle answer to your quiet frustrations.
Around the Fire, Grilling Meat – Wait, is this Japanese?
Dinner here is more than a meal—it’s a cultural experience.
You gather around an irori, a traditional Japanese hearth. On it, you grill beef, pork, chicken, and sausages, alongside green peppers, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms.
Then comes the finale: a warm bowl of duck-broth soba noodles. Not too much. Just enough. And that makes all the difference.

Mornings on the road don’t call for feasts. They call for kindness.
Toast, ham and eggs, and coffee. Simple. Familiar. A quiet beginning to the day.
A Wooden Inn, a Cold Spring, and... “Hell”?
The inn is an old wooden structure, full of character and calm.
The bath? It’s cold. Yes, cold. But therein lies the charm.
For the curious, there’s an optional “Kan no Jigoku” experience—a natural cold spring paired with a crackling wood-fired sauna.
A taste of “hell,” they say. A surprisingly soothing one.
Winter Comes, and You’d Best Be Ready
From November to March, the mountains remind you where you are.
There’s a 550 yen heating fee per person. And if you're driving, remember: even in Kyushu, you’ll need snow tires or chains. Book your rental car early.

■ Hot Springs ■ Our hot spring water is 100% natural, flowing at 2,160 liters per minute. The source temperature is a cool 13–14°C (55–57°F). You can enjoy alternating baths between the cold spring and the firewood-heated hot spring. Large Public Baths: Kiriishi-yu and Hinoki-yu (men and women switch daily) Private Family Baths: Hinoki bath, Kiriishi bath, and Rock bath (Free of charge / No reservation required) Cold Spring Sauna: A mixed-gender bath requiring swimsuits (additional fee required) Please pay at the facility on the day. Cold Spring Sauna Pricing (swimsuit required): A: Short Plan – 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM / ¥2,000 B: Basic Plan – 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM & next morning 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM / ¥2,500 C: Long Plan – 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM & next morning 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM / ¥3,500 ⚠ Notes: Mixed-gender bathing; swimsuits or sauna wear are required. Sauna fees are not included in the accommodation rate. Please pay on-site. Guests who consume alcohol during dinner may not use the sauna afterward.
